A large percentage of the fortune 500 companies employ them& ..What are they?& ..executive coaches& here today to talk to us is Lawrence Evans Chairman of Oxygen Coaching Corp. Lawrence, thanks for being here, What is executive coaching?

LE:
Becky& .it is the business equivalent of sports coaching. We are all familiar with the likes of Tiger Woods and Tim Henman possessing a coach, an executive coach will work with businesspeople to clarify their objectives and assist them to realise their remaining potential.
CNN:
How big is the industry currently?

LE:
It is a $100 million service sector and growing dramatically on a global basis. Some estimates say it will double this year in size. Here in Europe it is not yet mainstream but is used by many leading edge performance oriented companies. In a recent survey carried out over the last 3 years, by a Fortune 500 company it was said by the VP for Global Executive Development and if I may quote 'Leaders who have the best coaching skills have better business results'

CNN:
What sort of coaching can you use with these top business leaders who by definition are already very successful anyway?

LE:
Firstly, a common trait we find amongst the best leaders is the wish to get better. One of the main reasons behind the success of businesspeople is self belief. Our coaches assist in its development by increasing self awareness. Typically we will then work with the individual on clarity and a specific series of tailored action plans to achieve the desired objectives.

CNN:
Isn't this just a form of Training for the bosses?

LE:
No it should be viewed as additional to Training. Studies have indicated that as little as 10% of those who attend training programmes translate new skills and knowledge into measurable performance improvements at work. The reason behind this is that training currently tends to be a one off event. In our view it's effectiveness will only be seen in conjunction with coaching as part of an overall corporate strategy. Our coaches will work with attendees of training programmes both before and after those programmes. In our experience this dramatically enhances the productivity within the company and overall ROI.

CNN:
Thanks Lawrence.
